Second Class- Layered Painting over an Under-Painting (The Indirect Method)
This week we will be painting color over our monochromatic under-painting from last week.
Acrylic Painters: You may want to purchase Golden's Acrylic Glazing Liquid if you want an easier time laying down transparent layers of color with an extended working time and use a spray bottle on your palette once every so often to keep things moving longer, if needed. An alternative is to bring small containers (yourt,etc...) and mix very water downed transparent batches of color. I will show you how to do both in class.
Golden Acrylics has a really helpful website with tons of info on everything you can imagine having to do with their paint and mixing mediums. http://www.goldenpaints.com/products/medsadds/index.php
Liquitex acrylics are generally less expensive than Golden and the paints are readily available at most hobby stores: http://www.liquitex.com/Products/products.cfm (Please, call first to check if the hobby stores carry the gels you want)
Oil Painters: You will be mixing glazes of color following the fat over lean method for this painting. Refined linseed oil and or Galkyd makes a great color glazing vehicle. I will show both in class.
Here is Robert Gamblin's wonderful website and materials for oil painters. It is chocked full of information and Mr. Gamblin has always been concerned with the health and safety of artists while at the same time producing consistent, great products.
